What is workflow automation?

Workflow automation is using software to run a repeated series of steps across your apps without doing each one by hand, such as sending an onboarding checklist when a deal closes. The useful skill is choosing which steps are safe to run alone and which need a person to decide.

What to automate first

  • Tasks you repeat every week in the same way.
  • Steps that move information from one app to another.
  • Steps where a wrong result is easy to spot and undo.

What to keep for a person

Anything that spends money, contacts a customer for the first time or can't be undone should wait for a decision. A good workflow runs the routine steps and stops at the exceptions.

Where Steppa will fit

Describe a workflow in plain English and Steppa will build it across your apps and run it. It isn't built yet: join the early-access list to be invited as places open.

Questions

Do I need to know how to code to automate a workflow?

Not necessarily. Many tools let you describe the steps instead, though you still need to say clearly what should happen and when it should stop.
